Job Description
Overview: LAUSD’s Information Technology Division (ITD) supports and enables student achievement and operational efficiency by providing innovative technology solutions for our students, their families, our employees and our community. The Division’s recent initiatives which include closing the digital divide, strengthening security of our data, migrating major systems to the cloud, and updating infrastructure at our schools, facilitate each student’s path to college and career readiness. LAUSD’s IT Division supports over 1 million users, manages over 92,000 wireless access points, and distributes and maintains over 130,000 network devices.
Job Description:
The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) will be an essential player in planning and directing LAUSD’s information security strategy and in overseeing security programs across the District to ensure that information assets and associated technology, applications, systems, infrastructure, and processes are adequately protected, and that data entrusted to LAUSD is secure. This role presents a unique opportunity to plan and guide the information management security roadmap and direction for the nation’s second largest school district

Qualifications:
A BA/BS from a recognized college or university preferably with a major in a related field.
Six years of executive or management level experience in systems security.
Expert knowledge of/experience with: Common information security management frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 27001 and NIST. Networking, application systems, Internet, Intranet, and client server operations. IT security principles, access controls, and confidential information protection principles Firewall technology, remote access security, voice, data, and advanced local-area and wide-area networking technologies. Agile (scaled) software development or other best in class development practices. Cloud computing/Elastic computing across virtualized environments. Encryption technologies, software, and applications. Access control systems and methodology. Relevant industry standards and certifications. Audit and assessment procedures required to identify cyber vulnerability and weakness in an organization, and to prove compliance. Current threat and attack landscape, latest security trends, and principles.
Certification:
Possession of the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent and at least one of the following security certifications or equivalent is required:
GIAC Certified Information Security Officer (GISO)
GIAC Security Leadership Certification (GSLC)
GIAC Certified Firewall Analyst (GCFW)
GIAC Systems and Network Auditor (GSNA)
Bonus:
Experience in systems security management in a K-12 and/or university setting.
Experience with training in systems analysis and information/telecommunications security.
An advanced degree with an emphasis in a related subject
